I worked at Muzak, LLC full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The corporate office is a great environment and the company was filled with a large number of passionate individuals who truly desired to perform well.

Cons

My direct supervisor was unavailable and undependable. Serving the system rather than service customers dictated too many decisions.

Advice to Management

Listen to the people that work for you. They have genuine insight on how to make the company better.

I worked at Muzak, LLC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Corporate staff are actually great. It's the sales focus of the company that will kill it.

    Cons

Company employs deceptive sales practices that make fools of both the employees and the customer.
Sales staff is trained to trick customer into 5 year contracts by lack of disclosure and documents that have hard-wired contract terms that everyone knows are negotiable but they tell the customer they are not. Only the most aggressive customers get better terms.
There are multiple ways that Muzak tricks the customer to sign an agreement that is presented as cancellable but is full of tricks that would cost a customer thousands of dollars to attempt to terminate.

Issues abound: (1) The use of a multi-layered contract that includes a master agreement and several statements of work (SOW) that each can have their own terms such that you may be siging a 5 year contract an not know it. (2) You will have trouble cancelling the Muzak agreements because they employ an aggressive legal department that will chase you down and ruin your credit (3) The compnay does have flexible terms for length of contract but the local Sales Managers who think they are smarter that the customer will lie and try to selectively impose a higher 10% per year rate if you seek a lower than 5 year contract (4)At sales meetings they celebrate the number of foolish customers that sign five year agreements and share tactics for geeting other to do the same (5) They will deploy used equipment for contracts that are supposed to use new equipment and they will do so if you manage to negotiate a better deal(6)They brag about the potential for sales execs to make $100 or more yet the avarage makes only $50k and there turn over is very poor due to the lack of sustainability of their sales practices (7) They lie to customers about the quality of equipment, terms, service levels and anything they can to get them to sign but you can call any customers and you will be told that the service levels are poor (8) they introduce a new product so often in their desperate attempt to be masters of all (9) they hire and manage to keep only the most desperate sales staff

DIGITAL SIGNAGE IS A JOKE--THE PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND SALES STAFF IS CONSTANTLY TRYING TO AVOID THE CUSTOMER.

    Advice to Management

Revamp your sales approach to eliminate unethical desperate managers who will get you short term results but are the reason why your sustainability and future positioning is poor. Employ more college educated sales staff that are not caught up on trying to make a a lot of money using cheap sleezy sales techniques. Revamp your installation and service approach to reduce error rates--you know they are high but you do nothing. Employ independent professionals to assess the truth of what is happening in the field.
