Former Employee - Category Manager in Universal City, CA

I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good pay. Benefits are good.

Cons

Too corporate. Too many politics. More talk less action. Not focused on entertainment. Don't care about career development or their people. HR is a joke. Without a doubt the worst place I've ever worked. I do not recommend this place to anyone in entertainment. No in senior management had entertainment experience. Unbelieveable.

Advice to Management

Focus on making better content. Seems like too much focus is on ruining employees lives. Hire more people with entertainment knowledge.

    Pros

Fun to work in 30 Rock
    Great supervisors
Many facilities being updated and renovated

    Cons

Terrible pay and not many raises
Company pride is forced and overdone
Talent is paid far too much compared to production staff for the amount of work done by both
Not much room for advancement (to be expected)
Most of HR is like a high school clique - immature and not very helpful

    Advice to Management

Pay your production staff more, pay talent less, ring in HR

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

If you go in at a more senior level, it's quite easy to advance. However, if you're at a more junior level there is little room for upward mobility since it is such a large company.

    Cons

You feel like just a number and a cog in the wheel.

    Advice to Management

Management caters to the higher ups and constantly looks over those with lesser titles who are instrumental to operations.
