Former Employee - Systems Administrator in Warren, MI
No opinion of CEO

Pros

-exposure to enterprise level systems
-interaction with Federal government
-great initial team spirit

Cons

-glass ceiling in promotions and salary
-no defined career path at local site
-tons of internal and governmental politics
-limited training budget
-high management turnover. One manager stayed only 2 weeks; average term is 18 months.

Advice to Management

Learn to manage you customer. Local management lost millions of dollars because of inability to manage the customers expectations. NCI should offer the customer a list of solutions to implement, not the other way around. Also, document when a solution is rejected;many times NCI takes the blame for not implementing the solution that was presented in the past but had no proof to show the government that the plan was submitted.

I worked at NCI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company does not require constant business development leads from client-site workers. No significant taskings beyond what you are contracted to do.

    Cons

Paychecks often inaccurate and unreliable. CFO and payroll are a train wreck; slow to react or remedy pay problems. Both display great indifference and zero remorse when personnel are not paid appropriate amounts and on-time. No realization or concern that they affect a person's life and livelihood. Cycled through 4 program managers in a 2 year term; no consistency. Several were good leaders but suffered the corporate culture of apathy when trying to resolve issues for workers. Overall treatment of employees below the executive adminisphere is that of disposable entities. Had one senior manager in my chain who was introduced with much hooplah and fanfare only to have him be ineffective, unavailable and the absolute embodiment of the Peter principle. Company is very fat in the middle with an entire herd of corporate site cattle eating into overhead and revenue while providing a minuscule to nonexistent return on investment. IT policies and staff underwhelming. IT helpdesk is task adverse.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are your biggest asset, quit treating them as disposable. Your lack of repeat business on contracts speaks volumes about customer satisfaction. As employees, our job is to represent your company faithfully and competently. As employers, your responsibility is to provide an accurate paycheck on time. These are truly the basic and nearly sole responsibilities in the employer/employee relationship and you currently fail due to your CFO and his payroll staff.
