    Pros

Good company, good people. Casual, flexible work environment. Employees guinely encouraged to pursue work/personal life balance. Great benefits . . . health insurance paid for entire family, 401K, ESOP, vision. Corporate emphasis on community service.

    Cons

    1. Limited career growth opportunities. Unless your manager gets hit by the proverbial truck or you are willing to relocate to one of their state portals, there are just not that many directions you can go at NIC.

    2. Compensation. Unless you are a director level or higher you can count on a cost of living adjustment every year and nothing more, regardless of the performance of the company or yourself personally. Very frustrating philosophy.

    3. All of the company's customers are state, federal, and local government entities, so as you might imagine it is not a culture that comfortably embraces change or quick decisions.

    Advice to Management

The compensation philosophy has to be reconsidered. When the economy and market start heating up (as they are now at least in technology fields) it will be difficult for good people to not leave knowing they can go down the road and easily get a 15-20% raise.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    Great benefits package
Very stable company (long term government contracts)
    Fast-paced environment
    Good people
    Really good experience

    Cons

    Government small-minded thinking
Government applications can feel repetitive and don't necessarily allow for a lot of creativity
Some advancement opportunities but usually means moving

    Advice to Management

Get a good creative team, don't settle for good enough when it comes to government web applications.
