Pros

NRG is a great place to work, with a supportive group of senior managers who are more accessible and approachable than at any place I've ever worked. I've worked for the company for about 18 months, and have gained invaluable knowledge of and experience in the power industry.

NRG is breaking new ground in the nuclear and solar power realms, making it a very forward-thinking workplace where innovation is embraced, new ideas encouraged and young leaders' careers developed. NRG's benefits package is also very generous, with a great health care provider and generous annual incentive plan.

Cons

No major cons - you need to be very amenable to change, as the company is growing quickly in different areas.

Advice to Management

Keep up your open dialogues with employees through town halls, etc. - it's very useful.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

It's a stepping stone for further experiencethat can be useful in later positions. Since NRG has several plant in the US market there could be a variarity of oppertunites for a person that will move to differrent locations in the country.

    Cons

Management in the remote areas are not supported by senior managment. Senior managment will blame any manager in remote location without any reseason other than it must be the remote managment fault. When a remote location need support and help this is not likely to take place - blame is an easier way for senior managment. This lack of support will generate mistrust amoung remote managment.

    Advice to Management

To be supportive and provide help when managment in remote areas need support

I worked at NRG Energy as a contractor

    Pros

Incredibly smart people, very supportive of employees, and motivated to make a change in the world through green technology (in the San Francisco office mainly). Also good work/life balance.

    Cons

Main issues are the industry its in and the challenges it is facing, but the company is doing what it can to address those challenges.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the enthusiasm and hiring smart people.
