Great supervision. Knowledgeable attendings that are well known for their work and research. Very well respected as well as approachable.

I worked at NYU Langone Health as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

NYULMC is definitely trying to position their institution to give NYPresbyterian a run for the #1 hospital spot in NY. Their endeavor to bring EPIC online in December 2012 for all its clinical departments is ambitious and worth giving acknowledgement.

NYULMC has great discounts which Contract/Temp employee can use, although they are not able to access the standard benefits of medical/dental/tuition etc...

    Cons

Unfortunately, the EPIC / IT department leaves much to be desired in treating contract/temp employees as human beings. First, being contract means you do not have benefits. It does not mean you are not protected under Federal laws & State regulations for EEO/AA. If a F/T employee receives accommodations for disabilities, age, ESL, and religion -- SO DO YOUR contract/temp employees.

The EPIC Dept. is not structured to credential and train employees who are protected by regulations, its is simply: If you cannot learn our curriculum as it is written, then you are fired. It is disgusting to have a CT training manual which states "how respectful you should treat adult learners" but a curriculum to credential trainers that does not reflect this or a live training course/manual that does not accommodate these protected groups.

There is anything worse than a person/group which documents all of their "MISSION & VALUES" in a 60+ page packet and then systematically violates each page over a 10 week period.

    Advice to Management

Dear Dr. Grossman, until you remove these BAD APPLES passing as PT's and their senior leaders, who systemically violate the protected rights of individuals -- your will fail in December...and worse yet, be sued for discrimination.

I worked at NYU Langone Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

NYU boasts some of the best facilities in New York. It has a lot of assets and locations around the city. The food at the medical center is decent.

    Cons

There is no sense of community, there are barely any perks for employees, and the system of logging hours makes it feel like being in a jail - (thumb prints, really?!). Overall, enjoyed working in the lab because my PI was great, but the medical center itself was not a good place to be.

    Advice to Management

Realize that your employees are people and give them some perks. NYULMC acts like more of a business than any other health care center I have ever seen.
