I have been working at Nalco Champion full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Field level personnel have significant control over their own schedule provided that all needs are being met. There is an absence of micromanagement. Great job for self motivated and self taught individuals.

Cons

Decentralized management can manifest in a lack of support. Must be comfortable with long commutes as work sites can be widespread.

Advice to Management

Be more visible and interactive with field personnel.

I have been working at Nalco Champion full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Houston offices (Fresno and Sugar Land) are great places to work. The buildings are clean and safe. The safety culture is second to none. The people are all so talented, intelligent, passionate and friendly. Certain crowds of people in the company are true leaders. good resources in field and very knowledgeable technically capable research group, sound sales force. The company is a sales driven organization. The training is impeccable. Crucial Conversations still one of the best classes. High engagement in most department. Lots of opportunity to move around internally IF you have the correct pedigree. Great Vision and Tremendous learning opportunities.

    Cons

There is still a certain inner group of people that will only allow a select few to enter into coveted high paying and high profile positions. This is unfortunate because in many cases these positions are not necessarily earned. Some high level positions are all based on managers' relationship outside of work or they went to the same school. Cronyism, nepotism, and in other circles favoritism. There is still some places where good old boy club is present. internal surveys have come back with these kinds of negatives. Oil and Gas company facing some hurdles. Some people is sales look at all other departments as tools on their tool belt instead of people that they can learn from or mentor.
The legacy leadership should remember the company's roots this may help to change the mode of thinking of the new hires who mostly feel as though they are all ready for management.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that there is a group of people that have been faithful to the company for years and these people have so much to share to the new hires. The Ecolab Model of bringing in people that are completely unfamiliar with the The Energy industry to be managers truly does not mean that these people will be good managers. Stop rewarding the people who take credit for other people's work and pass it off as their own. Some high level managers are extremely quick to label people all based on hearsay. If it sticks then you fall out of grace with them when it may not even be true. This needs to stop. Everyone should focus more on building and contributing to the team you are a member of.
