I have been working at Nantahala Outdoor Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Jovial and outdoor focused community. During my college summer's I worked for the Guest Relations Office for NOC, which allowed me to have a wide variety of outdoor experiences that I missed while in the city at school. We were incentivized to go rafting on all the rivers that the company rafts on, had group days to test out the zip lines, and spent afternoons mountain biking and SUP boarding only a few hundred yards from the office.

    Cons

A cleaning schedule was much appreciated in the office.

    Advice to Management

Help the different departments connect. Working the Guest Relations Office is great for someone who is an outdoor enthusiast, but might not be at the level of wanting to be on the water every day. This does mean that the staff events are helpful to get to know the river, restaurant, and store staff, so I would like to see more of those events.

    Pros

Great company culture, employee owned. When I began there were wonderful benefits for everyone, part and full time, lots of perks.

    Cons

After a few years the benefits and perks changes and were significantly less. Became more corporate when the KSOP was bought out and investors bought the company and took over.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like they matter, if you aren't going to pay a decent wage then at least make up for it in other benefits.
