Long standing memeber of the Denver community providing state of the art healthcare in ever expanding fields. People are genuinely happy to work here.

Cons

For me, the commute is the biggest con.

    Pros

Some of the nice things about working here are the generous time off, holiday, and sick time policies. They don't give you any vacation time until you hit the six month mark, but as soon as you hit the two year mark, you start accruing time like crazy. They also contribute %5 of your pretax salary to your 403b after a year.

The institution, overall, does some pretty cool research work. The medial care provided here is considered excellent. I was able to get my foot into the door of clinical/research science.

    Cons

The pay is atrocious. Worse than any other hospital in denver. Management treats you like you are a replaceable cog. New employees fresh out of college are hired at salaries higher than people with 3+ years of specialized experience at NJH. There is no cost of living raises, so the %2-4 pittance of an annual "raise" they give you is typically outpaced by growth in GDP. Basically, your salary will not go up unless you get promoted. Even then promotions of any sort are capped at %10.

NJH is a non-profit organization that at one time went by the slogan "None who enter shall pay. None who can pay shall enter." Now they have one of the highest costs of patient care of any hospital in denver and pay their employees significantly less than other hospitals. Managment constantly reminds employees that they are helping people by working at NJH. Executives only care about telling employees about ways to expand, maximize margins, and money money mone money.

In addition to the horrible pay practices, HR will respond to employee complaints (even about legal matters such as discrimination) only under threat of lawsuit.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect and they will return the favor
