I worked at National Park Service part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked as a seasonal Interpretive Park Ranger. This position provided me with opportunities to explore beautiful places and gain excellent costumer service skills. Became a well rounded employee who was able to manage many tasks from leading a hike on the fly, to presenting school programs on a train excursion through the park, to managing the daily operations at visitor centers. Worked with some amazing people.

    Cons

Very limited full-time opportunities. Most positions with NPS are seasonal. Also, you will need to be willing to move around, which was fine when I was younger. Now as I am beginning to find the place where I want to be, moving out of the state is not an option.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at National Park Service as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

In my experience, the best part of the NPS is the people. I have had two different jobs with them, and in both cases, I had great relationships with the people i worked with.

    Cons

The major downside of the NPS is that the pay is generally less than you'd like. However, most people don't go to the NPS because they are drawn to the high salaries.

    Advice to Management

Much of the upper management seems to get caught up in the bureaucracy and forgets the purpose of the NPS. Also, geology is extremely under-emphasized at the parks compared to wildlife, forestry, etc.
