Cons

- a lot of red tape leading to lots of frustration, especially since top level management seems to oblivious about sentiments on the ground

    Pros

The pace of worklife is manageable and ther is plenty of training opportunities which are FOC.
Lateral transfers to other departments creates internal job opportunities for existing staff whose staff benefits will not be affected (eg. days of leave and long service awards) unlike quitting and joining a new firm outside.

    Cons

The lack of central HR support in interviewing staff also pumps up the recuitment costs including a waste of interviewers' time ; it is a vicious circle, i.e No support from central HR or faculty HR in selection interviews -> wrong staff recruited -> training resources pumped in -> staff cannot perform or staff leaves -> recruit again.
Top mgt HR is unaware (or not interested in) what happens on the grounds; When issues are escalated upwards after getting no where with the Officer in charge, the senior mgt staff merely refers it back to the same Officer handling the issue!

    Advice to Management

Relook and re-org OHR. Review salaries of good or performing staff in order not to lose them. Top mgt should listen to the ground if HR officers and staff are not really surfacing the issues they face.

  2. "moderate"
