Pros

Unique B2B nonprofit with potential to do much to advance its mission to provide the scientific basis for biodiversity conservation.

Cons

Underappreciated and strapped for resources, in part because of the difficulties in overhauling a quirky business model inherited from its initial role as a scientific support center for the Nature Conservancy.

Advice to Management

Counting staff hours month-to-month is no way to run a business

    Cons

Not much room for professional growth. No annual raises.

    Pros

It is very easy to feel at home at NatureServe. The staff is fantastic, and the work is inspiring.
The mid-level supervisors are the ones that are truly helping their staff.
Collaboration between lower/mid staff are great, but fail once senior leadership gets involved.

    Cons

Staff gets caught up in minor projects and details which take so much time to complete.
Funding is definitely a problem, some employees are hustling to keep their jobs.
Lack of communications between divisions- some of the work is being done twice.
Pay is very low for the area.
The leadership team is not leadership material. Although VPs are great in what they do, they lack direction when it comes to leadership. Sometimes leadership fails to consult with employees or each other on major decisions.
There is a serious lack of departmental collaboration and an issue of haves and have-nots. Serious lack of understanding that we are all moving towards the same goal.

    Advice to Management

    Stop hoarding "power"
    Be more transparent with staff
