    Pros

Great people to work with and family friendly atmosphere. Decent benefits and fun healthy living incentive program. Good work life balance .

    Cons

Although a company wide raise was given in the stores, compensation was lacking in the Santa Cruz corporate office.

I have been working at New Leaf Community Markets (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits aren't great but not horrible, the best being the chance to take home any old product (bread, fresh pizzas, salsas,), any damaged items, i.e. cans, torn bags of cereal/boxes, any produce deemed bad. They offer a darn decent discount for all employees of 20% everything in the store.
Most, not all but most, of the people here are great, positive, friendly people who are kind and welcoming.

    Cons

Hiring standards are awful, management will hire anyone that will show up to their shift, that is their only qualifier.
Since being bought out by a larger more "corporate" natural foods store, many of the great policies and benefits formerly offered by NLCM have been axed, i.e. for employees with the company 10+ years they would offer, sabbatical w/ pay and a 30% discount.
Employee peer review is not balanced based on certain positions throughout the company.
On the job training is a joke.
    No firm management structure.
No room for growth in specific positions.

    Advice to Management

Be firm with corrective actions against employees who don't perform as expected.
Be more active in anticipating issues and with knowing how to do everything in the store, I feel as the manager, you should be able to do everything in the department/store you're in charge of.
