    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at New York City Department of Education full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Long vacations, chance to make a difference in the lives of young people, good union, great professional development and opportunities to grow, colleagues offer support .

    Cons

A lot of changes in teaching to the test has created less teaching and more teaching to the test. Administration dominates instruction and schools are closing solely based on test scores.

    Advice to Management

We need more teachers in the classroom. Two teacher minimum for classes with 30 or more students.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Positive Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at New York City Department of Education part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work is aways available, so that's a good thing. Even if it's a school that has caused you misery.

    Cons

Department does not look out for the per diem's well being.
Per diems are sometimes used as scapegoats
Per diems are sometimes looked at as incompetent.
Principals of schools rarely introduce themselves to per diem.
Per diems are rarely told ahead of time what they will be doing for the day, even though the teachers that are going to be absent have the capablity and the vehicle to do so.
Per diems can be contradicted or rated poorly by a principal without having the opportunity to defend his or herself.
The principal, the student, the paren is always right.

    Advice to Management

I have said enough to them. They don't care, especially if you are a per diem.
