I have been working at New York Life full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Wonderful training, great commission and renewal structure, outstanding products, awesome leadership, advancement opportunities, high moral and ethical standards, positive environment.

Cons

You own your business, so you will face expenses that you must pay. The first year is very tough since renewals are not established to help you with a base pay.

Advice to Management

Possibly find a way to have less mandatory meetings and find more time for field work with the agents.

I worked at New York Life full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good in house training with experienced sales agents and training reps on a weekly basis. Scripting to give presentations allows you to learn your product thoroughly. Good commission matching program the first three years. Support team at the office to ensure your paperwork is clean and commissions are paid immediately. With a good office manager, you can go far with NYL.

    Cons

Expensive start up so be prepared to have up to 6 months of your income needed in the bank in case your sales aren't great the first few months. You will pay for everything including your phone line and internet, so be prepared to have all of it taken from your checks in the beginning, which could reduce them to nothing if you are just writing small term policies for your friends and family to get your feet wet.

    Advice to Management

You work so hard recruiting great talented people, and you only retain 10% of them at the end of one year from each class you spend so much time trying to develop. Free leads and orphan cases could be a great incentive for new agents to stay longer. Review your candidates regularly and help them achieve their goals, don't just let them write all of their friends business and you make your 10% for recruiting them, and then let them leave. It doesn't make you look good.
