I worked at New York Life full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Name recognition and national marketing makes it easy to explain your job. People know about the company and what it's about.

    Cons

Company uses outdated sales techniques and sales scripts that are very tacky and not natural. Promotions are determined on how much you suck up to management rather than your performance. Company pushes whole life insurance policies to all clients regardless of they need it or not.

Sales managers are overwhelmed and do not help much, nor do they seem to care. Branch senior managing partner is out of touch and overdue to retire. Sales managers are promoted after 2 years of sales experience, so some are young and very inexperienced.

Training is not individualized and partners do not help. Many promises about training did not happen, such as I was told the sales manager would come to appointments with me. Other agents complained about pay and being micromanaged by sales managers.

Company makes you pay for every little thing and charges you extra for basics such as business cards and printing paper.

    Advice to Management

Salesmen don't always make good sales managers. Update your company to the 21st century or risk being history.
