Pros

You're entitled to a free gym membership.

Cons

Very low pay, high stress, unattainable goals, little room for advancement. The position is extremely demanding, including working nights, weekends, holidays (Thanksgiving & Christmas included). Upper management does not have a good grasp of what it's like to work in the field. Support staff is all paid minimum wage and asked to work difficult hours. Benefits package is not competitive and the company is not "employee friendly."

Advice to Management

Increase pay and reevaluate the quantity of work for each GM.

I have been working at New York Sports Club part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed environment, great clients, respect of everyone in the gym, the potential for lots of friends and connections, make own hours within reason, good pay if you do enough sessions per month.

    Cons

Lack of proper upper management to sell PT, company expects you to be an awesome trainer and do all your own selling which is unrealistic. If you are a trainer you shouldn't need to be a pro salesman. No pressure to get things done on time such as fix machines. Horrible computer software and system overall. Budgets restrict management's abilities to make the clubs very nice and keep them updated.

    Advice to Management

Raise budget to allow all necessary equipment in the club, such as proper number of barbells. When you have 10 stations that require a barbell in your club and you only have 5 barbells and an equipment budget of $250 a month, you're going to have a bad club!
