I have been working at NewAlta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many new challenges arise monthly. Almost never the same thing twice. Flexible schedule. Work life balance is part of the culture.

    Cons

Extensive travel to remote areas. Diversification in the marketplace is minimal. Recent downturn in the energy sector decimated the foundation of the company. Currently rebuilding at all levels...Leading tongue challenges mentioned in the Pros.

    Advice to Management

    Measure twice. Cut once.

I have been working at NewAlta as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy job for drilling & work-over rigs.

    Cons

Very poor communication from supervisors & schedulers. Hard to get equipment fixed. Stuck with Canadian Oil/Gas business policies such as no facial hair, etc...

    Advice to Management

Increase communication all the way out to the hands on locations. If that means you need more supervisors, then make that move. Even responses to a text message would be satisfactory.
