I have been working at Newell Rubbermaid (More than 3 years)

Pros

It's a very youthful company. There are a lot of great people there. The cafeteria is really nice.

Cons

Unrealistic expectations from upper levels. Absolute scope creep on every single project. People are miserable and leaving in droves. Terrible health plan.

Advice to Management

Find a way to avoid all the last minute changes. Pay reasonable salaries. Find a way to ensure your employees are actually happy and maybe they'll stick around.

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mimio: great team spirit and cross functional department. Cambridge location is nice.

    Cons

    - Slow growth. Inconsistent career opportunity from department to department.Pays less than market rate.
    • WEAK business strategy- R&D managers call the shots with many short sighted decisions and little to no long term benefit.
    • LACK of discipline and focus- the leadership team chases after everything, stretching resources way too thin.
    • CONSTANT restructuring across teams and company. Damaged the ability to move the company forward and stay competitive.
    • CHOKING on process. Corporate structure is overly complicated and shared resources with sister companies not in the same business is inefficient and wasteful. Formality and inefficient tools like making all staff use SAP has bogged down the department.
    - CONSTANT restructuring and layoffs on a quarterly basis. Bloated corporate infrastructure is killing the entrepreneurial company.

    Advice to Management

Sell off the company! Your bloated process and infrastructure is choking and non-competitive. Start recognizing your strong talent and make an effort to nurture and retain it. A LOT of strong talent has left over the past 2 years.
