I have been working at Newell Rubbermaid full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

- Great brands
- Great people
- Opportunities abound
- Good results

Cons

I love the company, but its been rough lately. The constant organizational changes have been unending. Employees are worn-out and skeptical. Additional bureaucracy and red-tape are bogging down productivity

Advice to Management

The changes you're implementing are supposed to improve productivity and unlock trapped capacity for growth. But in many ways, these changes are having the opposite effect. Please listen to the troops...

    Pros

Challenging work environment, Strong divisional leadership team. Compensation above average for area.

    Cons

Health benefits mediocre, constant change in reporting structure. Focus on short term financial performance over rides long term strategic investment.

    Advice to Management

Current strategy appears to be taking hold. Stick with it before changing again.

    Pros

    Great benefits.
Better than average compensation for upper level management.
    Full relocation package.
    Good work life balance.
If you don't like the current strategy, wait, it will change in 6 months.

    Cons

Employees are treated like numbers on a spreadsheet versus being individual contributors.
Strategy is constantly changing, thus providing no positive momentum for growth.
Top level leaders are all part of a "good old boy system"
Upward advancement opportunities no longer exist.
Grave misstep in leadership assumptions that a durable goods company can operate like a consumable goods company, leading to massive changes in operations and ability to service customers and develop products.
Very top level of company driving all business decisions now, taking the expertise out of the business units. Massive decisions are being made based on 1-2 page briefs.
All the good people are now gone. Only people remaining are only interested in survival and not actually doing what is right for the company and its share holders.
Inexperienced leaders in very top most position (ie: First time CEO and Chief Strategy Officer with no real experience running an organization beyond just sound bites).
Financial results are hidden in the jargon of core sales adjustments and businesses that are being written off. From an investment standpoint, the company is not growing.

    Advice to Management

You guys picked the wrong company to model Newell after. Newell is not P&G, not Colgate Palmolive, and not Unilever. If you want to look at a successful company that has some products similar to yours, why not look at what other organizations are doing with products and operating models that are well designed to compete successfully in a durable goods environment?
