Neutral Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I worked at Nokia full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

- great place for fresh grads
- trainings and opportunities for self-development - depends on the manager
- not much stress and good work atmosphere - depends on the manager
- big, well-regarded, stable company

Cons

- depends on the project, but usually lots of maintenance work and bug fixing
- dependency on higher management in distant places, many meaningless telecom meetings, and other corpo-like elements
- low salary growth rate

Advice to Management

Trying to please some very demanding clients too hard, by letting them have too much influence on work of developers, may hurt morale, cost too much time/effort and simply turn out to not be worth it.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Excellent work culture and working environment.
    2. Flexible timings. Work from home options available.
    3. Few very good managers who offer maximum support.
    4. Most people are talented and good to work with.
    5. Much better than service based companies.
    6. Good place to prepare for exams or do business in parallel.

    Cons

    1. Cheap ways cost cutting.
    2. No performance based hike - based only on experience. (At least to my knowledge)
    3. Very bad initial training for freshers (Still, few teams have better training).
    4. Competence not up to the mark with few seniors. Lack in very basic programming skills.
    5. No IPR related knowledge across people and we are R&D Engineers. Pride !!!
    6. Roles are created for people and not people for roles. Too many, Too many managers.
    7. Poor employee retention policies.
    7. NSN, a good place for people who show-off. (Re-iterating from a colleague - found it to be very matching)

    Advice to Management

There might be more managers than engineers in an R&D center. Can have better employee retention policies. Cut the customer product delivery delays rather cutting employee benefits. Avoid too much of internal politics.
