I worked at Nokia full-time (More than a year)

Pros

It's a great global organization with opportunities world wide.
A wide set of large scale products and projects to work on and willing to take on new ways of doing things (like Agile Software Development.)

Cons

Disparate goals in which the teams act as if in silos, making it difficult to provide rapid results for customers.

Advice to Management

Need to focus on creating their own identity, rather than a mix of joint ventured companies. Determine who they want to be and go after it.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work environment is very flexible, there are also work from home days that can be agreed. Salary and benefits are very competative.

    Cons

IT has just recently been outsourced so there are limited career options here in that field. The company is still struggling with profitability so there may be future headcount reductions in the future.

    Advice to Management

Change management must be planned much better in the future and there should be a planned localization strategy for these changes.

"A good place to advance a career and gain valuable skills, but ultimately lacking in needed speed and agility."

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good pay, generous 401k match, great teams, and some exciting projects with a tremendous potential audience reach.

    Cons

The company suffers from excessive red tape, duplication of efforts, too many cooks in the kitchen, and one hand not talking to the other. This slows down the product cycle and ultimately makes the company less competitive.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees to deliver and let them do so. The vast majority of them are creative, talented, driven, and eager to get solutions out the door to customers.
