I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

Pros

With commission anyone can make their own pay check, there is money to be made at Nordstrom. The brothers that run the company are super down to earth and yes they do travel around a good amount and take time to meet their employees - even the sales people.

Overall Nordstrom is a fun company to work for, and while technically it is retail, it does not feel like retail. It's fun and makes you challenge yourself everyday.

Cons

Pay varies on commission (which is great!) but month total pay varies depending on the time of the year, so you have to budget to consider the few months that may be slow. Other Con, while it doesn't feel like a retail job, the hours are still retail hours and around the Holidays that can be hard.

Advice to Management

You work to SUPPORT and MOTIVATE your salespeople.... they drive your business. Do not forget that.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

decent retail pay plus commission in the cosmetic dept

    Cons

Horrific Management, terrible schedules, disrespect from management, cult-like environment.
Evidently, management is not allowed to socialize or even speak to anyone who is not management outside of work! Also, no employee at anytime is allowed to use the restrooms in the store, they must use the public mall restroom! It's pretty obvious with these 2 rules alone that management has absolutely no respect for their employees. Also, if you don't make your numbers, they expect you to actually walk over to a customer (even if they're in another dept) and pretty much drag them to your counter to sell them something.....Wake up Nordstrom Management....It's supposed to be about Great Customer Service....remember?!!! Oh yes....and if you're full time...don't hold your breath because they can cut your hours to part time anytime they want....nice, Hah?!

    Advice to Management

You might want to look into some of the values and beliefs that other companies follow....such as treat employees with dignity and respect....You'll get a lot more work out of an employee who feels appreciated....At Nordstrom you're just a number and are very REPLACEABLE!

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There on rule is there is no rules, take breaks when you want for how ever long you want, easy dress code , make your own schedule ( with approval) discount in nordstorm and rack stores!

    Cons

Goal they set are unabtainable, event after event after event causes you to call the same clients you sold to last week to come in for "something new" working comission on an overstaffed sales floor with no clients ! managment looks the other way if sales person is sneaky or not following protocol is he or she is bring in their goal and even sometimes rewared!

    Advice to Management

Make goals abtainble but customizing to sales person, spend more time on the sales floor to see the trafiic, schedule properly so that everyone gets a chance to sell !
