I worked at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful, clean work environment, high-end merchandise and customers, a lot of really nice co-workers who were helpful and empathetic to the plight of working retail.

    Cons

The pay at my store was awful-$9/hr because no one in my department EVER met their goals. If you work in a low-volume store, forget about making any real money. Sales goals are ridiculously high. Also, Nordstrom's return policy literally has money being taken from your paycheck for up to 1 year. The company then resells its used merch at their Rack & Outlet stores and the sales associates pay the price. Literally.

    Advice to Management

None--I don't think the managers have any control over the problems with working in the stores ie. the return policy, high daily sales goals and lack of customers in low-volume stores. My particular manager was 15 years younger than me but very sweet and knew what she was doing.
