I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

If you are in the footwear department you get 10% commission. Which is the best department to work for. As long as you meet your goals you have nothing to worrt about.

Cons

Like any job, you have to play politics. Upper management aren't sociable and are not very helpful.

Advice to Management

Lead by example. Leave your personal issues at the door. Making friends with your co-workers will not get you promoted. Keep your eye on the prize.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great money during the holidays but when its just a normal day, it is slow. Discount is ok. 1 hour breaks. Nice team.

    Cons

Management expects you to be only appointment based and do not understand that most people do not like setting appointments with a sales associate to shop. Department managers will never be satisfied with you. Every month you have to tell them what your "opportunity" is even if you were doing everything right.

    Advice to Management

Talk to the HR team. They are very unhelpful. I contacted HR with an issue I was uncomfortable speaking to my manager about and HR told my manager to tell me to go directly to my manager if there is a problem and then have my manager go to HR because they dont want to hear anything from me.

I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

fair hourly rate, supportive co-workers, location close to home

    Cons

department management could be stronger and more effective, too many events throughout the year in cosmetics

    Advice to Management

please make sure all trainings are completed before employees are to begin on sales floor, and are aware of all tools available to them to succeed in positions.
