I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

There's nothing but opportunity to move up, and they're pretty good at noticing different types of skill sets. There's an effort to seek out diversity. You're encouraged to have a real sense of ownership in the company. Learning/moving up is mostly a transparent process; you know where you stand and how to improve.

Cons

You sort of have to be a certain type. Communication majors with perfect looks and bubbly efficiency seem to do well, as well as dudebros.

Advice to Management

Don't get too locked into promoting people who are just really good at self-promoting; seek out diverse folks with alternative viewpoints/ways of getting things done. Don't be so quick to dismiss (it's easy to do so, when everyone wants to work there).

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Commission (you can make as much money as you can sell)

    Cons

    Commissions
Very cultish (you have to drink the kook aid to like working here)
Management goals and incentives are not aligned with that of the salespeople so there is a conflict of interest and there is always something to be in trouble for.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the company on a lower level is aligning with the true cultural values of the company (it currently is not)
