I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great place for those interested in relationship selling and delivering great customer service.

Cons

Department managers are frequently immature with no management coaching. Feedback focused on what you did wrong is management by fear.

Advice to Management

Think strategically about what the business needs, and hire the best problem solvers- not just those who have toe'd the company line

    Pros

    Building is nice. Facilities are generally well maintained.

    Cons

    Low tolerance for mistakes has made a work environment that is not creative, and dynamic. Fear of failure drives decisions that are neither creative or on the cutting edge. Focus on the customer has driven the business plan for decades, and I totally support that view, but not at the expense of those that drive the systems that support that service. Position discriptions are written intentially to keep employees on the lower end of the pay scale for their positions.

    Advice to Management

    Raise salaries & change the culture of blame.

    Pros

    You knew what was expected to you and what your duties were. Also knew what you would be making at your base salary.

    Cons

    - No room for growth
    - Unobtainable goals - didn't look at department and locations spread same goals

    Advice to Management

    Look at talent beyond just numbers. You talk a big game stating growing meaningful lasting relationships with clients however it takes longer to grow those and the numbers to follow. Look more at RE-Purchasing with a specific customer it shows that your employee is building Nordstrom clients...
