Pros

You make as much as you want. Awesome compensation and awesome culture especially. Great college job.

Cons

Of course customers can be extremely rude and take advantage of Nordstroms return policy.

Advice to Management

Good job!

    Pros

Hour lunch break plus a 15 minute break
Created personal professional relationships with customers
    Great pay during the holidays

    Cons

    Commission based
Managers breathing down your neck about hitting quota
    Drama, drama, drama
They don't really care about you
The return policy is awful to your paycheck and sales goals
Your co-workers will more than likely be sharks ESPECIALLY in cosmetics
    Stressful environment

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. Just because you are a manager at a high end retail store don't act like you're better than everyone else. PLEASE DON'T FORGET at the end of the day you are still just working in retail. You aren't saving the world as a doctor or something.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very competitive pay, great experience, beautiful environment, hard working friendly co-workers, discount, fair medical and 401k benefits.

If you are highly motivated and willing to take advantage of fellow employees and the customer you will prosper!

    Cons

This company will drop you as fast as they can find someone a little better to replace you. Nordstrom has the highest turnover rate I've ever witnessed. They will give you more than you can possibly handle with the experience you attain. Working for this company is a gamble. You will be enticed by the possibility of making a good salary/Commission.

Commission breakdown in short: Nordstrom wins you lose

Let me explain this a little further. You get a commission percentage of anything you sell. This varies depending on the department you work within or manage. If you sell a certain amount and the customer returns that item the item goes against your commission. In some stores within the company customers return more than you can actually sell leaving you at what they call "draw" meaning you get a base pay. This pay varies depending on your position. As a Manager this is a terrible place to be. Everything you do is tracked ( net sales, rate of return, accounts opened, units per transaction, ect.)

    Advice to Management

    good luck!
