Pros

Management is very supported. They want you to do well and most will go out of their way to help you succeed.

Cons

A lot of petty issues in most departments. New people often steal sales unintentionally. Not a lot of direction on what your job entails, they kind of just stick you out on the floor after register training and let you figure it out on your own.

Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites.

    Pros

Competitive pay, very good HR structure and employee support, employees are empowered to use their best judgement.

    Cons

Hours can be demanding during peak shopping times of year and during sales.

    Advice to Management

Remember the importance of empowering your employees to use their best judgement. Don't overwork crew. Customer service emphasis needs to flow through to how company treats employees. Treat employees well equals happy/satisfied employee equals job satisfication. All of which makes for an employee who is not only qualified to give great customer service but one who is supported and enabled to do so.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discount, you meet a lot of people it's a big store, networking. I think the company as a whole has a good vision and direction but it is not lead throughout all stores.

    Cons

You DO NOT get a base rate. In the interviewing process they lead you to believe that you get a base rate plus commission. The only money you make is what you sell and if you do not sell enough you "MISDRAW" and that's when they pay you but, 3 misdraws can result in termination. For example: if you work 70 hours in 2 weeks you need to sell enough to at least make $700. If you do not that's when they pay you and they do not like to do that. There are MANY unprofessional managers within the company. You work like a dog there and what you do is rarely recognized. I was happy for about 2 months and then saw the store for what it really was. You can work your BUTT off and be the BEST team player and have the most FELXABILITY but at the end of the day they care more about the TOP SELLER who might have no work ethic at all. It's a free for all there and most of the employees are unhappy. Truthfully it's a joke working there at least in the Roosevelt field mall store.

    Advice to Management

pay your employees an hourly rate on top of their commission, they will put much more heart and soul into their job. No one wants to work an 8 hour barely sell and make no money for that day it is a waste.
