I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The management seems nice, they appear to support the growth of their employees, and the hours can be flexible.

    Cons

Was hired to be full-time, yet it was so slow I was frequently told to go home earlier or not come in during scheduled shifts. Therefore there's no hope of me ever getting any health benefits. And for a commission based position, it's very hard to actually take home enough money to make working there worthwhile. When items that are returned within one year of purchase, the commission is deducted from your existing sales. The customers know how lenient the return policy is and constantly use it to their benefit.

    Advice to Management

Offer a base hourly wage, so that employees can have some kind of control over their take home pay. At this time the only people who seem happy working there are the college kids who dont need the money and just work there for the discount.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Executive Management at top level is reason for success and pride in association. Seeking quality in products and excellent customer satisfaction.

    Cons

Middle management needs more clarity to execute storewide positive goals - need to recognize all employee contributions on every level to promote harmony within.

    Advice to Management

You do a good job of allowing all employees to feel they are part of positive growth and goals for success but actual local middle management needs better definition of true leadership & consistently connecting with their administrative staff and sales force
