I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Brand recognition. Everyone loves Nordstrom.

Cons

Very competitive atmosphere that tends to lend employees' to gravitate toward cliques that are not welcoming to newcomers.

Advice to Management

Do not promise things you can't deliver just to get someone hired. For instance, I was promised flexibility to go back to school. Yet come the time to return, my department manager was not willing to give a set schedule for me to make it to class.

I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Part-time benefits include 401k (and even a contribution/match), paid time off, paid holidays, and decent pay. Good opportunities to network and meet many people. Overall laid-back and professional environment.

    Cons

Quite a bureaucratic place to work - not exactly easy to enhance your career unless a manager favors you.

    Advice to Management

Managers shouldn't pick favorites or disregard talent/hard work. Our store manager was quite pompous, undiplomatic, and not very bright.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nordstrom is known for their amazing customer service. It's easy to know what to do because we are just told to take care of the customer.

    Cons

Sales can be high pressure. If you want to move up you have to be mobile. This could be a pro for some people. They really take care of you when they move you.

    Advice to Management

    No advice.
