I worked at Nordstrom part-time (More than a year)

Pros

great hours
discount
learning restaurant industry
flexibility
ability to transfer to another store

Cons

uniform was unflattering, as a hostess/greeter, a uniform like the chefs seemed a little silly

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, competitive wages, 401k plan, merchandise discount

    Cons

long hours, on your feet a lot

    Advice to Management

Be sure to rotate who closes even if you have to let one of your strongest sales people have the night off. Everyone needs some time off.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Growth, experience, fashion, fun, DISCOUNT!! Friendly and fashion forward customers and co-workers. Decent benefits and 401K is matched up to 4% which is really nice.

    Cons

You work hard and sometimes even your best is never good enough. The daily grind of beating the retail world and making your numbers just doesn't ever seem to fade.

    Advice to Management

There always seems to be a lot of "barking" from RD's and RM's about making numbers. I feel like I spend more time in conference calls and checking ridiculous amounts of emails from Regionals than actually coaching my team and selling with them. I prefer seeing the email that I can learn from: look at how store xxx merchandised this brand and sales skyrocketed instead I constantly get: send me your recap, get on the call today, Do this Do that...bark bark bark
