I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

They want to promote people. They work hard to get employees, who show interest, into management positions.

Cons

You have to be willing to move all over the country for your entire career. This is ok if you don't need to be near any friends or family or if they can move with you for the next 30 years. You can not stay in one position for too long and most promotions lead to Seattle and then back out to any store manager position in the country.

Advice to Management

Employees who are succeeding in their current role and want to stay should be encouraged to do so. Bringing more "corporate" type roles to each region will help with how long employees will stay with the company.

    Pros

I used to love working for Nordstrom, and some stores are really amazing. Your experience is very dependent on the management of each particular store.

    Cons

Inexperienced managent and cocky young assistant managers who have not been properly trained.

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing your employees, if you do there won't be such high turn over

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing work environment. All management (including owners of the company) have worked their way up from the sales floor, so they are understanding and know how to support employees. Emphasis is on customer service more than profit, making the sometimes tasking sales environment much easier to deal with. They truly care about employees- hard work is noticed, and when it is they make sure you are promoted. On top of that, it is a fun place to work.

    Cons

Most departments are strictly commission, which can be stressful if trying to pay rent or other expenses since month to month income can vary significantly.
