I worked at Nordstrom as an intern (More than a year)

Pros

I loved the commission environment and responsibilities that it entails. Their internship program was also a great learning experience, with many challenges.

Cons

Due to the commission nature of pay, it can get awkward and catty on the sales floor. Futile daily tasks were also a hinderance to selling. When the store was not busy, work was excruciatingly slow.

Advice to Management

My best managers were those that did not micromanage.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Highly competitive pay, the most supportive management you will find, good benefits. Many opportunities for advancement. One of the best corporate cultures you will find in retail. Competitive but still a sense of team. Leadership development programs. Great merchandise to get excited about. The people are the best.

    Cons

Like everyone, Nordstrom is cutting costs. Less support than there used to be. Nordstrom embraces change, which is not bad, but not all changes are good.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to feedback from salespeople and lower level management. Continue to invest in developing leadership, and continue the promote from within culture, it brings the best employees aboard, and keeps them there.
