I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

discount, incentives, well known company

Cons

stressful, high expectations, management makes changes constantly, very high turnover of employees, very high call volume with little relief

Advice to Management

stop to think if the changes you are making are going to make our jobs that much more difficult and if it is going to discourage so many people that you have a huge amount of people that leave. Good people that have been there for years have now left...

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

None, except some of the people I worked with.

    Cons

Retail hours. Can't leave until the last customer is out of the store if you close. People are constantly fighting over sales since it's 100% commission. High turnover. I was the 2nd most senior person in my department after only 2 years. If you don't sell well enough or just don't have the style they look for they'll fire you without batting an eye. Even if you have a degree in something fashion related but not sales related, you have to start with sales and hope you sell well enough to work thru the ranks. Management only promotes the people they're friends with even if you outsell and outwork them. Most sales people are two faced. It was like an episode of The Real World.

    Advice to Management

    Don't play favorites.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time

    Pros

Lots of mobility within the company. They only promote from within. It is generally a very nice place to work.

    Cons

Most assistant managers don't make a very good base salary.
