I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

There are lots of opportunities to advance within the company. It was a great place to work while going to school at the same time. My manager was very good at accommodating my work/school schedule, and it was a good paying job. Nordstrom does a good job of training their employees the value of good customer service skills, which you can apply to any future job.

Cons

As with any company there are politics involved with who moves up within the company and a bit of favoritism for who gets better hours. Also their overall benefits package is not as great as other companies I've worked for.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

communication with management. managers are on call and made available to employees. Store manager is very helpful and will look out for your best interest. Easy to progress within the company.

    Cons

Seniority. commissioned based sales that promotes the highest making employees to receive better treatment than other, especially disciplinary. The whole competition in commission gets tiring when you have to constantly have managers reverse sales because the 'million dollar sellers' are in actuality snakes.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, fun work environment, and a good place to get sales experience

    Cons

too much emphasis on opening Nordstrom cards, slow seasons can be very rough with too many salespeople on the floor, your department manager will determine everything about your experience

    Advice to Management

put more emphasis on the customer, needs to be more cohesiveness between what store and department managers want
