-Ability to be promoted is good
-Interaction with customers is good.
-It is a very solid company

Cons

-A slow week can bring a very bad paycheck, no matter how good you are.

Advice to Management

Good, but very political. It is a lot of who you know, but if you perform well, you will get promoted

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

I LOVE the company, I love the title and the image that goes with working here, I love the people in my dept. and the customers we have. Discount is only 20% for the average associate but it goes a long way, especially during the events we had.

    Cons

Our managers were young(er), so they acted young(er). They were childish and the only way get anywhere or be accepted was try and suck up and be their friend. It was like high school drama... there was talking behind peoples' back, all of that. I wish they didn't.

    Advice to Management

Pick better department managers that are older and experienced.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

commissions, great customers, somewhat flexible hours, fun at times.

    Cons

Have to compete directly with associate or assistant managers who not only manage you, your schedule and your sales behavior, but also compete AGAINST you on the floor.

Complete idiots promoted and considered in management ranks. Those who "can't" elsewhere, "CAN" at Nordstrom in my opinion.

    Advice to Management

Re-look at your investment and criteria used in selecting, developing and training your managers. Less politics and more skills set analysis would go a long way in ensuring quality people and quality leaders of the future.
