I worked at North Carolina Office of the State Auditor full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Fair Wages;
Work/Life Balance Exists;
Office Provides Mandatory Breaks (Two 15 minute and a 30 minute meal)

Cons

Management appeared to take pleasure in demoting and terminating employees.
The office culture was very negative; management was successful in stifling employees the thoughts of people who were hired in large part for their critical thinking abilities.

Advice to Management

Management should be aware that they they have an unusually high churn rate for a white-collar organization; particularly in a weak economy. However, given that there isn't an economic detriment to management (wages are not dependent on a specific amount of output), they may not care.

    Pros

    Good benefits and flexibility. You can take time off whenever you need to. There is not that much travel involved.

    Cons

    Good luck getting any raise or promotion. They do not pay for the CPA exam

    Advice to Management

    I know they are in a tough position because they have a budget they must adhere to, but more money would be nice.

    I have been working at North Carolina Office of the State Auditor full-time

    Pros

    Exposed to all levels and types of governmental operations.

    Cons

    Office is dominated by back-biting, back-stabbing, manipulative people. Supervisors do not support employees. Almost 100% employee-turnover in less than 2 years. The promise is performance based promotions. Practice is extreme favoritism.

    If you are not favored by the Queen, then forget advancing, ever.
