I worked at North Highland as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

Compensation is good
Benefits are excellent and affordable
My recruiter stayed in touch and was as concerned with my satisfaction as with my performance

Cons

Since the RIF, good luck getting in touch with your new recruiter (especially if you're between assignments)

Advice to Management

Viewing your resources as people rather than commodities is what set you apart fro the other consulting firms out there. You're starting to lose that.

I have been working at North Highland full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are a few genuinely talented people who work here because of the low travel. The Atlanta office space is in a great location.

    Cons

    1) Staff aug work now dominates what our "consultants" do. Our company has become a staffing agency.
    2) The compensation structure inhibits the desire to build one's expertise through training or other development activities. It also requires you to take a hit on incentive pay when you take vacation- work/life balance means more than just not travelling
    3) Dissension in the way the company operates is met with a "you just don't get it" reaction, there is an entrenched culture of keeping the status quo
    4) Consultant churn continues to increase, most of the good people with options elsewhere, either with a consulting firm or with industry, left
    5) Anyone that is here for more than 10 years basically has tenure, which means they get away without doing much work
    6) While almost nothing is spent on employee development, a great deal is spent on marketing campaigns. Just doesn't make sense.

    Advice to Management

It's time to leave. For whatever reason, you choose to ignore the people of this company. The same problems that existed 5 years ago are still there. The surveys in Consulting Magazine.are rigged. This is NOT a "Best Place to Work". Can't you see all the great people leaving?? You made great money off the backs of hard working consultants, now go!
