I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Offers the opportunity for international assignments to India, Australia etc. Cafeteria facilities are very modern and offer lots of choice!

Cons

Can be quite a depressing place to work at times with a lot of employees feeling under valued. Young talent tends to stick around for a year or two and then get poached by competitors offering much larger salaries and better career prospects.

Advice to Management

Value your employees more, offer advancement and don't just pay the bare minimum as the company will lose out when they leave to go somewhere that pays more.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

For the most part it is a high integrity organization. I have never been asked to compromise my values. A good place for work/life balance. It is rare that I need to work more than 45 or 50 hours a week and most managers are very flexible around work schedules.

    Cons

Too many layers of management and management that tends to take care of itself before taking care of others. Pay and benefits are just OK.

    Advice to Management

If you are asking others to take cuts in pay and benefits don't take big raises for yourself.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Co-workers friendly, interactions with clients, physical work environment was nice.

    Cons

Lack of internal career growth, was a great employee yet overlooked for several positions while interviewing for outside candidates.

    Advice to Management

Too many layers of management. Seems every one is a "Vice President" of something. Look at your internal candidates who are looking for advancement rather than plucking from outside more often than not.
