I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

*Great environment for those who like loose management (not the case 100% of the time though)
*Good benefits (Education reimbursement, 401K, health, etc)
*The company as a whole is great - fantastic CEO
*Good facilities
*Many opportunities to learn from knowledgeable people
*Fascinating work

Cons

*Very, very little accountability; those who were a detriment to the company weren't dealt with very well or at all
*Very little acknowledgement for those who performed in an outstanding manner. Generally in the form of "Lets just make everyone feel good" rather than pointing out stellar contributors
*Multiple reductions in force over the last couple of years, >50% downsizing in my division
*Poor communication between management and the production floor
*Poor design for manufacturing
*Poor designs in general many times
*Military contract dependant

Advice to Management

I can't even being to stress how important communication is... all the way down the line.

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Still looks like a good place to start a carreer.

    Cons

Senior employees, it is best to move on if you can. Erosion of benefits and retirement make it even more compelling to do so.

    Advice to Management

You have clearly been loosing top software/systems engineers over the past few years. Your talent is leaving to Bit Systems in droves. It appeared to me that recent reorganizations seem to have left no single corporate entity with an interest in growing the business in Aurora. Raytheon is eating your lunch.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Northrop spends a lot of time and money on their internship program. They facilitate camaraderie among interns by providing numerous speaker/lunch/travel opportunities . If you are ambitious and hardworking, you can land a meaningful project worth writing about on your resume. Overall, I had a great experience at Northrop. Every other Friday is off and the hourly wage is very competitive!

    Cons

The company is slow and stogy. If you do not align ideologically with the defense industry, you may find yourself in an uncomfortable position. Your internship experience is highly contingent upon your managers enthusiasm for the program. First weeks can be slow... but it takes initiative to make your experience worthwhile!
