I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great pay for an intern.
They actually gave me work to do.
    Great resume booster.

    Cons

Depending on your area, there can be a steep learning curve. It's good to have other workers willing to help you.

I worked at Northrop Grumman as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is better than working at a convenience store, but not as good as other similar companies.

    Cons

Not provided proper tools to work with. No ladder to promotion. You hire in at your current role, and are not respectfully added to consideration for promotion. You have to apply, just like a total stranger. Time card management system is ineffective and wastes employee time. Many in management are in positions that are way beyond their mental capacity to function in. Pay scale is much less than comparable roles at other companies. If you sign on as a contract employee, you may never get the chance at a full time role. No benefits, no vacations, no respect for contract employees.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff like professionals, not some necessary evil or chattel. Your people are the lifeblood of your business. Creating tiers of management to isolate you from your people does nothing to grow your business. Cursing and malalignment of staff by management is an ineffective, and inappropriate way to conduct yourself. Create a path for contract employees to become permanent employees in a timely fashion. Contract employment is disrespectful to those workers who invest their life's work in your company. If you are hiring, hire the people - don't jerk them around in some little dance of contract employment. Management by fear is the sign of a weak mind.
