I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Interesting work, reasonable chance to develop professionally. Been working here roughly for 10+ years. Generally treated with respect and rewarded for performance. Not too bureaucratic for a large company. Have had a lot of variety - development, engineering, business development, project management. Management is generally fair and ethical.

Cons

Major customer is DOD, so defense downturns impact the company directly. Like much of the industry your employment depends upon staying covered on a contract; if coverage goes so do you.

Advice to Management

Company could do a better job with distributed work, as in spending more effort to facilitate employees in one part of the country to work on projects in another.

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, good small teams

    Cons

No corporate buy-in to the individual. You're on a contract making money for them, or you're out the door.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work life schedule. Soon to be terminated I'm sure.

    Cons

Increase every year under Ron Sugar for 9 years. RIFT'd twice under Wes Bush. It's not good to know that he was paid $1.5M to come to the falls church area when you're getting laid off. Regular promotions of VPs and Directors. Lots of Chiefs and no Indians. Loss of Recompetes due to this practice. Legacy companies have created a silent war often promoting those from their legacy companies and sometimes resulting in an entire legacy company's staff running an entire group. Working diligently to eliminate those not from their legacy company. Couldn't order supplies for two years. Had to charge all time directly to contracts and no overhead which is basically an insult to your integrity as there are activities everyday that require you to charge to overhead. Not doing so could result in your being unemployed. No more NG for me. No loyalty to this company as after 2006 they no longer have a pension. Northrop Grumman covers about 2% of health insurance. They blamed the increase on Obamacare. It was an amazing company with great benefits. Now it's just a bunch of crabs in boiling pot. They've brainwashed staff into believing that can't do any better. "At least you have a job.". I'm passing this time.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the over educated staff who do not nothing but talk and burn dollars and bring nothing to the plate. The Government Contracting environment has changed and Northrop Grumman needs to adjust to the climate.
