I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

- Pretty easy to stand out
- Lots of career opportunities
- Very good locations
- Excellent work/life balance (not much night shift)
- It's pretty hard to lose your job there
- Bleeding Edge product offerings

Cons

- Way too many layers of management
- Way too many managers at each level
- Management Oversight is too high on contract proposals; NG can't compete well as a result
- Transferring out of a department is difficult if you don't have someone pulling you
- It's better to look good than to be good
- Raises are the same whether you're Extremely Effective or Extremely Ineffective
- They lag upgrading personal workstations (For instance, I was upgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 2000 long after Windows XP was available)

Advice to Management

Please consider process improvement initiatives for the support functions - not just manufacturing. The true opportunities for cutting costs exists in evaluating what is really necessary to support your shop floor. Keep a watchful eye on management's "Empire Building".

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very professional and well run organization which has contracting opportunities throughout multiple Department of Defense agencies/organizations

    Cons

The salary offered sometimes isn't as high as competing firms. I translate this into higher overhead costs that such a large firm must incorporate into every one of their contracts.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible work hours, 9/80 schedule is amazing for scheduling work around lifes other major events. The company is also aware that employees have lives outside of work most of the time and can be very demanding at times.

    Cons

limited vertical movement due to the many levels of middle management. There is often more opportunity to move laterally and limited upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Training and advisory to new employees would be greatly appreciated
