I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance, sense of mission, very smart people, thorough process.

    Cons

Top heavy and confederated managment. The company is needs to cut their cost basis, but managment in the sectors won't vote themselves out of a job - they just cut the people below them.

    Advice to Management

consolidate and cut at the director level.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time

    Pros

9/80 Schedule means every other Friday off and very flexible hours (varies with role, of course).
Decent support for continued professional growth with $15K/year in reimbursement allowance for an approved degree/class.
Fused sick leave and vacation, so overall more vacation
For the most part, the environment is respectful, professional, and requests for rotations into new roles are taken seriously.

    Cons

Due to NG being almost completely dependent upon government contracts, it is currently undergoing a belt tightening period as a result of the government sequestration. Previously generous benefits are being curtailed and resources are being penny pinched. Lack of new business overall means less internal mobility within the company and stagnant wages. You can only work backlog for so long before people leave and processes, proprietary equipment becomes obsolete and mothballed. In addition, the job can be paperwork heavy especially if under Earned Value Management. In the effort to stay lean and competitive as a company, management has depressed morale by indiscriminately cost cutting.

    Advice to Management

Allocate more budget to fostering loyalty to your employees, especially the younger generation.
