I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity - Provide solutions to Application, Infrastructure and Field support areas, and be on the forefront of digital technology. Be part of a successful team. Good benefit package and free lunch. In addition to Merit Increases annually, there is a Variable Based Pay (bonus) determined on the success of the company.

    Cons

Know that you will provide solutions, and understand this my not be a company you will be at until retirement. You will need to seek outside training resources for the support of digital technical areas to be relevant. Business models and culture is changing and areas are being outsourced. Highly influenced by "start-up" methodologies.

    Advice to Management

Hold on to the experience you grow. Value the American worker. Be careful trading stability for flash. Listen to your employees closer that you do to data analytic providers (ex. Gartner)

I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good physical environment. Offer continuing education. Community commitment is great.

    Cons

Recent company restructuring displaced hundreds of excellent, experienced employees. They are hiring for different business strategy now. This used to be a premier place to work in Milwaukee. It is now like any corporate company.

    Advice to Management

You would serve your employees better to "walk the talk". Transparency is said but not practiced.
