I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

You learn a ton about the financial world. You are required to be state licensed in Life, Health and Disability Insurance, along with Long Term Care and Annuities. Even if you don't stay with the job, you take away a lot of knowledge that can help in future internship/job hunts.

    Cons

You have to basically call everyone you know and try to get them to sit down with you so you can sell them life, disability, or long term care insurance. It's exciting right away but you find out that calling everyone you know gets pretty uncomfortable.

You also don't make barely any money unless you sell a lot of insurance, so having a summer job doing manual work could potentially make you more money.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Training, and looks good on the old resume. You are your own boss essentially so you dictate your schedule and how much you make.

    Cons

100% Commission. If you are not from the area you are employed in or do not have a large number of contacts, be ready for some hard work and tough times.

    Advice to Management

Work on possible brokerage positions with good clients that consistently meet new prospects, by offering the referrer a cut of the commission. Capital Financial Group already does this with their Reps.
