I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Nice working environment
    - Suits every day
    - Well-known life insurance company

    Cons

    - No effective mentorship program
    - Older reps do not really assist interns/new reps in actual field work, only training
    - High Turnover
    - Selling ONLY life insurance as an intern
    - Not a good company if you want to start of as an advisor/advisor in training and not an insurance salesman

    Advice to Management

Guide interns and new reps in their first couple meetings instead of saying you are too busy when most of the time you are not that busy.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

You learn a ton about the financial world. You are required to be state licensed in Life, Health and Disability Insurance, along with Long Term Care and Annuities. Even if you don't stay with the job, you take away a lot of knowledge that can help in future internship/job hunts.

    Cons

You have to basically call everyone you know and try to get them to sit down with you so you can sell them life, disability, or long term care insurance. It's exciting right away but you find out that calling everyone you know gets pretty uncomfortable.

You also don't make barely any money unless you sell a lot of insurance, so having a summer job doing manual work could potentially make you more money.
