I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You have the opportunity to create your own financial future. With tenacity and dedication, you can produce your own six figure income. You have the freedom to do whatever you want with your time, you are your own boss.

    Cons

If you have a small market to tap into the beginning can be very difficult to get a fast start. You are constantly on the phone trying to set up appointments with people to give them financial advice for retirement. Most people usually don't want to hear that what they are currently doing for retirement, won't get them to where they want to be, when they want to be there.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

A good experience to learn about yourself, what you like and dislike out of a career. Had the autonomy to conduct business in whatever manner I felt was effective.

    Cons

Their business model is not an attractive one. As an intern, or even new rep, you're expected to use your network of people to solicit for business. As an intern, you merely set these meetings up and bring in a veteran rep to conduct the meeting and receive all the benefits from regardless to whether or not you stay on full time.

    Advice to Management

Make it more of a beneficial experience for interns so they don't feel used.
