I worked at Northwestern Mutual as a contractor

    Pros

    - Excellent training for any sales job-- they provide you with extensive training on sales language, rebuttals, business engagement etiquette, (aggressive) networking.
    - As far as I can tell, they do provide a quality product. Financially safe company.
    - Genuinely nice co-workers very willing to help you develop
    - You will get out of it what you put into it. You define your schedule.

    Cons

    - They want you to be so aggressive with the sales, I felt sleazy. Similarly, I do not mix family and business. They wanted you to start with family. Red Flag #1.
    - They want to exploit all your pre-existing networks (friends, relations, acquaintances) to create more clientele. Very sleazy tone to the whole thing.
    - Solely commission pay. Not including the $100/week stipend to be earned for attending a 60-90 minute long training session every week, during which an "educational video" (aka distilled monotony) was not uncommon.
    - I completely understand the need to push sales in a professional environment, but this brand simply lacks tact. Absolutely provides a pyramid / multi-level marketing element (think Herbalife) to it when they ask you to refer more people they should recruit to work there.
