I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Likely the best form of sales training/ experience out there if you're willing to work on 100% commission. You eat what you kill so if you are hesitant about dialing the phone i.e. cold-calling, you will not last long.

Cons

You must sell right away but if you are new to financial services/ insurance products you likely will not have much product knowledge. I would spend time learning about the products before applying and you will be way ahead of the curve.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Branch that I worked at was incredible in both nationwide performance and company culture. Great supportive young people that constantly competed for the top spot but also genuinely cared that others were also doing well. Great support staff for interns to succeed if interns are cut out for that type of work.

    Cons

The constant hounding of potential clients to set meetings and acquire financial records was laborious and often awkward. You can tell very quickly if you can succeed in that type of job and there is really no other way to decide besides trying it.

    Advice to Management

My internship experience was much better than what many of the interns around the nation said when I met them at the annual meeting. Use the model that is developed in the high operating branches and spread it through entire company
